Take remote actions on a device
How to lock, unlock, wipe, restart, shut down, scan, enable Lost Mode or dis-enroll a managed device in ZenAdmin MDM.
When a device is lost, stolen, or leaving the fleet, act on it remotely from its detail page. Open the device and use the Actions menu — the available actions depend on the device and its MDM provider.
What actions are available?
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lock / Unlock | Locks the device screen remotely, or releases it. |
| Wipe | Erases the device. Use for lost or stolen devices, or before reassignment outside MDM. |
| Restart / Shutdown | Reboots or powers off the device. |
| Enable / Disable Lost Mode | Puts the device in Lost Mode so it can be located and secured, and takes it back out. |
| Scan | Requests a fresh compliance/inventory scan from the device. |
| Dis-Enroll | Removes the device from MDM management entirely. |
How do confirmations work?
Every action opens a confirmation dialog showing the device's name, serial number and type, so you can be sure you're acting on the right machine. Sensitive actions also require a 6-digit security PIN before they run. Once submitted, a toast confirms the action was sent.
Provider differences
Not every provider supports every action — the menu only shows what's possible for that device. For example, Intune-managed Windows devices don't offer remote lock or shutdown.
Where do I see what was done?
Every action lands in the device's Activity Log tab — see View a device's details.
