Choose a trigger

ZenAdmin workflow triggers explained — employee joins, employee exits, or form submitted, with before/after timing in the employee's timezone.

The trigger is your workflow's first node — what makes it run.

What can trigger a workflow?

  • People → When an employee joins — the onboarding trigger.
  • People → When an employee exits — the offboarding trigger.
  • Form → When form submitted — pick one of the workflow's custom forms; submitting it starts a run.

When does it fire?

For People triggers, timing is relative to the person's joining date or exit date:

  • Immediately — the moment the event lands.
  • Before event — a set number of days, weeks or months ahead (provision accounts three days before day one).
  • After event — the same, after (a 30-day check-in email).

Set the trigger time too — it fires at that hour in the employee's own timezone, so a "9:00 welcome email" is 9:00 for them, not for HQ.
