Create leave types

How to define leave types in ZenAdmin — units, paid or unpaid activity types, and the colors and emoji that identify them.

A leave type is a kind of absence your company recognizes — annual leave, sick leave, work from home. Policies are built on top of leave types, so create these first.

Steps

  1. Open Time Off → Leave Types and click New Leave Type.
  2. Give it a name, a color and an emoji — these identify the type everywhere, from balances to the who's-away calendar.
  3. Choose the unit: Days or Hours.
  4. Choose the activity type:
    • Not Working, Paid — classic paid leave (annual leave, sick days).
    • Not Working, Unpaid — unpaid absence.
    • Working, Paid — away from the office but working (work from home).
  5. Save.

Unit and activity type lock in

Once a leave type is used by at least one policy, its unit and activity type can't be changed — they define how balances are counted. Name, color and emoji stay editable.
