Archive a device

How to retire a device from your inventory — archive reasons, and the extra steps for sold or disposed devices.

Archiving retires a device from active inventory. Only Unassigned devices can be archived — retrieve a device from its employee first.

How do I archive a device?

  1. Open Inventory Management → Inventory.
  2. Find the device and choose Archive from its row menu (or from the device's detail page). You can also select multiple unassigned devices and archive them in bulk.
  3. In the archive drawer, choose an archive reason:
    • Lost, Stolen
    • Sold, Waste Disposal, Certified Destroyed
    • Donated, Gifted to Employee
    • Returned to Retailer, Vendor Owned
    • Created by Mistake
  4. Submit.

What extra details do sold or disposed devices need?

Choosing Sold or Waste Disposal reveals additional fields — whether ZenAdmin handled the disposal, the data-wipe certificate, the original invoice, and whether the Apple ID lock was removed and the device released from ABM/Autopilot. Filling these in keeps your compliance trail complete.

Where do archived devices go?

They move out of the main list into Actions → View archived. See Manage archived devices for unarchiving, editing or permanently deleting them.
