Deallocate a device

How to retrieve a device from an employee — reassign it, store it at the ZenAdmin warehouse, repair it, ship it to an office, or archive it.

Deallocating retrieves a device from the employee who has it. Only Assigned devices can be deallocated. What happens after retrieval is up to you — the wizard adapts to the handling method you choose.

What can happen to a retrieved device?

Handling methodWhat it means
Retrieve and reallocate to an employeeThe device goes straight to another employee — you'll pick them and confirm their address.
Retrieve and store at the ZenAdmin warehouseThe device is collected and held in storage until you need it.
Retrieve, repair and store at the ZenAdmin warehouseSame as above, with a repair before storage.
Retrieve and ship to officeThe device is returned to one of your office locations.
Archive the deviceThe device is retired instead of retrieved — you'll fill in archive details.

How do I deallocate a device?

  1. Open Inventory Management → Inventory.
  2. Find the device and choose De-allocate from its row menu (or the Deallocate button on its detail page).
  3. Asset Deallocation — choose the handling method.
  4. Complete the extra step your choice requires — the new employee's address, a shipping address, or archive details.
  5. Review — check everything and submit.

How do I deallocate several devices from one employee?

When an employee is offboarding with multiple devices, select them all in the inventory list. If every selected device is Assigned to the same employee, the Bulk De-allocate action appears and processes them together.

Can I cancel a deallocation?

Yes — while it's still scheduled, use Cancel deallocation from the row menu or the device's detail page.
