Understanding asset statuses
What each asset status in ZenAdmin means — Assigned, Unassigned, In Transition, Under Maintenance and Archived.
Every device in your inventory has one status that tells you where it is in its lifecycle.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unassigned | The device is in your inventory but not with any employee. It can be allocated, archived, or put into maintenance. |
| Assigned | The device is allocated to an employee. The Allocated To column shows who has it. |
| In Transition | The device is moving — an allocation or deallocation is in progress and shipping is underway. |
| Under Maintenance | The device is temporarily out of circulation for repair or servicing. |
| Archived | The device is retired from active inventory — lost, sold, disposed of, or otherwise no longer in use. |
Which actions are available in each status?
- Allocate is available only for Unassigned devices.
- Deallocate is available only for Assigned devices.
- Archive is available only for Unassigned devices — retrieve a device before retiring it.
- Devices that are In Transition or Under Maintenance can't be allocated or deallocated until they settle.
